- Sugo Festival, Hokobune Shinto Ritual, Dedication Fireworks
- [Okazaki-City]
- Date : 8/4/2018
- The dedication fireworks of the Hokobune Shinto ritual at the Sugo Festival is a well-known fireworks event in Okazaki. The Hokobune boats with lit lanterns are launched on the Sugo River, and fireworks are dedicated. This Hokobune Shinto ritual has been passed down since the late Edo period. In recent years, the festival has been held in conjunction with the Okazaki Kanko Summer Festival fireworks held on the 1st Saturday in August. The highlights are the dedication of the Hokobune Shinto ritual and the parade. In the parade, young men enter the shrine singing the Nagamochi song. After the hand held fireworks are offered to the altar, the shrine parishioners go aboard Hokobune boats, from where they dedicate Mikawa fireworks. The dedication of hand held fireworks, cannon fireworks, shooting fireworks, and goldfish fireworks has enthralled people since the Edo period. The two romantic Hokobune boats together with the dedication of fireworks generates a lively festival atmosphere.
