  • Kami-Handa District Festival & Chintoro Festival
The festival of Kami-Handa is held for two days on a Saturday and Sunday in mid April every year. Two floats (Kita-gumi Karakosha, Minami-gumi Fukujinguruma) parade around the town, and at the Miyaike Pond in the grounds of the Sumiyoshi-jinja Shrine, two boats (Kita-gumi Sumiyoshimaru and Minami-gumi Irimiyamaru) are launched, and a children's Sanbaso dance is dedicated. Handa City's intangible folk-cultural property, this festival is called the "Chintoro Festival". The festival of Kami-Handa is called the "Chintoro Festival", and involves a parade around the town by two floats that guard the portable shrine, and the floating of two Chintoro boats on the Miyaike Pond in the grounds of the Sumiyoshi-jinja Shrine, while a Sanbaso dance is dedicated by children on the front stage. The Chintoro boats originate in the Makiwara boats of the Tsushima Tenno Festival introduced in the Bunka and Bunsei periods. In the Yoimiya Festival, the central pillar of the boat is decorated with twelve lanterns representing the twelve months of the year, around which lanterns representing the 365 days of the year are arranged in a hemispherical shape.

The children's Sanbaso dance is performed separately by Kita-gumi and Minami-gumi on the Sumiyoshimaru and the Irimiyamaru boats respectively, and in it a child of 3 to 4 or 6 to 7 dances to the rhythms of Kusabue (reed pipes), Tsuzumi (hand drums) and Hyoshigi (wooden clappers). The Sanbaso dance of Kita-gumi is a powerful dance by a boy, while that of Minami-gumi is a feminine dance by a girl. The facial makeup and patterns on the Kensaki Eboshi (formal headgear) are also different. The child in the Kita-gumi dance wears sharp manly makeup, and a black Eboshi that has gold hems and four horizontal lines, and a red circle that indicates the sun in the middle. The child in the Minami-gumi dance wears feminine makeup, a black Eboshi that has gold hems and a gold circle that indicates the moon.

In the Handa region, a Sanbaso dance performed by dolls that are manipulated by three hidden puppet masters and are located at the front part of each district's Miyamotoguruma float is dedicated to the shrine. The only district that dedicates a children's Sanbaso dance is the Kami-Handa District.
