- Owari Yokosuka Festival
- [Tokai-City]
- Date :
Annually on the 4th Sunday of September and preceding Saturday
-
- It is said that the festival originated in the Kasaboko festival held for the second generation feudal lord of the Owari clan, Tokugawa Mitsutomo, who visited Yokosuka Palace in the early Edo period. Records show that it was only in the late Edo period when floats started to be pulled around like they are today. Four floats from the respective towns are pulled around in conjunction with the Atago-jinja Shrine Autumn Festival. The floats of Yokosuka Festival are of the Nagoya style, which tells us that there used to be a deep connection with Nagoya. The festival comes to its climax when the floats make a Donden rotation at an intersection.
