In April, when spring is in full bloom. In the town of Utsumi, splendid festivals distinctive to each district are held all at once.
The Higashibata District Festival is a traditional festival which has been held for more than 200 years. The float guards the deity of the Takamiya-jinja Shrine when it goes to the Kumano-sha Shrine on a portable shrine decorated in gold. On the upper part of this float built in the end of Edo period, a Yutori Shinto ritual play is performed by Karakuri puppets depicting a Shinto priest and a shrine maiden.
